I'm Floating
On a pool
A lazy pool to be precise
Bobbing, spinning, and drifting
With no agency, choice, or care
Even as the sun blares down
Even as cicadas scream
I continue floating
With no agency, choice, or care
I’m floating on a lazy pool
With a drink in my hand
Fizzing with pretty colors
And cold to the touch
It numbs
My tongue, my body
And my mind
But that doesn’t matter
All I need to do is float
With no agency, choice, or care
I’m floating on a lazy pool
Surrounded by currents
The water is cool and refreshing
Deep and dark
Revitalising and calm
Terrifying and Oppressive
Demanding
Endless
But that doesn’t matter
All I need to do is float
With no agency, choice, or care
I’m floating on a lazy pool
I’m stuck
I’m scared
Any splash and I fall
Any thought and I drown
Any change and it’s all gone
I will bob
I will spin
And I will drift
It can’t matter, none of it can
All I can do is float
With no agency, choice
And I cannot care
